FAQ
Why does my signed PDF show a yellow question mark?+
Many viewers show a yellow mark when they cannot match the signing certificate to a root they already trust. The signature can still be cryptographically intact. Trust display depends on that viewer’s certificate store, chain, timestamps, and revocation checks.
Can this tool make Adobe show a green tick?+
No. Adobe Acrobat and other PDF apps decide the green tick from their own trust settings. EpicTechie checks signature data and writes a report. It cannot force another viewer to trust a certificate.
What does “document modified after signing” mean?+
A valid PDF signature covers a byte range. If content was added or changed after that range was signed, the document may no longer match the signature. That is different from a viewer simply not trusting the certificate.
What is a certificate chain?+
The signer’s certificate is usually issued by an intermediate CA, which is issued by a root CA. Viewers walk that chain to a root they already trust. If a link is missing or the root is unknown to the viewer, the file can look untrusted even when the signature itself is intact.
What is revocation checking?+
Revocation checks ask whether a certificate was cancelled before it expired, often via OCSP or CRL. This tool does not contact outside revocation services by default, so revocation is reported as not checked unless the PDF already contains that information.
Are Aadhaar, PAN, and Form 16 PDFs supported?+
If the file is a PDF with a standard embedded digital signature, we can inspect it. That includes many Aadhaar, PAN, Form 16, invoice, and bank documents. Results still depend on the signature, certificate chain, and timestamps inside the file—not on a special India-only format.
Are my files stored?+
No. Files are processed temporarily and automatically deleted after use. Uploads are not used for training, and we do not log document contents or extracted personal details.
